I Want to Get Baptized
As followers of Jesus, Baptism is an important step of obedience that shows others we have personally trusted Jesus for our salvation. Jesus was baptized, and we do this to follow His example. When followers of Jesus are baptized, they are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus and raised out of the water to identify with His resurrection.
It’s your declaration of following Jesus as best you can — a picture that represents a commitment you've made – not just for us, but for our friends and family as well—that the old is gone and the new has come. Baptism is about going public with your faith.
If you have questions or would like to talk with someone about baptism, we’d love to have a conversation with you in-person. The first step to getting baptized is letting us know you’re interested – Fill out the form below & we’ll follow up with you.
Common Questions about Baptism
What is Baptism?
Baptism is a visible response to one’s trust in Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Baptism is a picture of the death (dying to our sin and old life), burial (washed and cleansed by Jesus’ blood), and resurrection (raised to new life) of Jesus. When we come out of the water, we’re reminded that three days later, Jesus rose from the dead, defeating death and securing eternal life for us. Baptism is an outward expression for our friends and family as well — that the old is gone and the new has come.
How do I know I’m ready to be baptized?
You’re ready to be baptized once you’ve made a personal decision to make Jesus Lord and Savior of your life. Everyone who is willing to repent of their sins and confess their belief in Christ should be baptized (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38-39).
The Bible tells us we’re saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). In the early church, baptism wasn’t just a symbol — it was the first step of obedience in faith, marking their decision to follow Jesus and uniting them with Christ (Romans 6:1-8). At Iron Coast, we want to honor that original purpose & practice. That’s why we encourage baptism when someone is ready to fully commit their life to Jesus.
Should a person ever be rebaptized?
The word for “baptism” in the New Testament is the Greek word “baptizo,” which means “to immerse in water.” Baptism is a symbol of the burial of the old self and the resurrection of the believer’s soul to walk in new life with Jesus. Therefore, at Iron Coast, we baptize people by immersing them in water. If you have been sprinkled, we would love to talk to you about why immersion is important.
Rebaptism is encouraged for those who lack confidence in their initial baptism experience because they don’t remember it, they were coerced, or their heart was not right with God at the time. Anyone who has fallen into sin after having been baptized should repent and seek forgiveness, but rebaptism is not necessary (Acts 8:13-24).
Is baptism important for my salvation?
Receiving salvation through Jesus requires a response on our part—one that includes belief, repentance, confession, and baptism. Each part expresses our trust in Jesus Christ for our salvation. The actions—including baptism—do not save us, but each action is mentioned in Scripture as part of becoming a Christian.
The Bible teaches that Jesus saves. Acts 4:12 states salvation is found “in no other name” than Jesus. The Bible teaches us to believe, repent, confess, and be baptized. As mentioned before, the actions do not save us, but each action is mentioned in Scripture as part of becoming a follower of Jesus.
What Bible passages can I study about baptism?
In the book of Acts, which records the history of the early Church, everyone who accepted Christ was baptized. Here are some Scriptures to study:
Acts 2 – The Samaritans
Acts 8:26-40 – The Ethiopian
Acts 10:23-48 – Cornelius
Acts 16:11-15 – Lydia
Acts 16:30-34 – The Philippian Jailer
Acts 22:6-16 – Paul on Trial
Matthew 3:13-17Matthew 28:18-20
